Together We Act, United We Change

Since 1994, the month of April has been nationally recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). SAAM is a national call to action, reflection, and recommitment to the work of ending sexual assault and responding to the needs of survivors. It is also a reflection of our daily efforts and a powerful reminder that change is possible when we create it together.

This year’s SAAM theme is, “Together We Act. United We Change.”  It captures the truth that real, lasting change doesn’t happen in isolation – it happens in community, through collaboration, and through the relentless efforts of those who believe in a safer, more just world.

Sexual violence and domestic violence are deeply interconnected. Many survivors experience both, often at the hands of someone they know and trust. That’s why we advocate for comprehensive, trauma-informed services and policies that reflect the full reality of survivors’ lives. Through national partnerships, legislative advocacy, and support for state, territorial, and local programs, NNEDV works to ensure that every survivor has access to safety, dignity, and healing.

This way is not about us recognizing it but about the undeniable truth that domestic violence and sexual assault are interconnected and what we are doing about it. This year, let us commit to the collective power of advocacy, and remember that every action matters. Whether you’re facilitating prevention workshops, engaging policymakers, sharing educational resources, or simply showing up for a survivor with empathy and care, your efforts are part of a much larger wave of change.
